Hiii! here i'am gonna tell you about the news item text.

 

News item text is a text that informs readers about daily events that are newsworthy or important. Newsworthy means to be reported, so not all events can be reported. The purpose of the news items text is to inform the reader about daily events that are appropriate to be reported or important. And the events reported are usually the latest events or events.

 

The Generic Structure of the news item text is as follows:

 

1. Main Event / Newsworthy Event:

Is the main story, a part that tells a summary of an event or important event that happened. For example Seven people were killed in a collision between a bus, a car and a truck at 10:35 p.m. on Jalan Sultan last night.

 

2. Event Background / Elaboration:

Tells in detail the background of the event or events that occurred, who was involved, where and how the event occurred. For example The dead were all passengers in the car. Police believe the car may have been trying to overtake the bus when it was struck by a truck coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the car may not have been using his lights, as the truck driver said he did not see the car approaching.

 

3. Source

The last part of the structure of news item text, a news source can be a source statement, witness comments, expert opinions, or statements from related parties of an event. For example The police said the car should not have been trying to pass the bus, since overtaking is not allowed on Jalan Sultan. In addition, the police reported that the car–a small Japanese car–should not have been carrying more than five people. The names of the victims are not yet known.

 

In every English text type News Item Text, there are linguistic characteristics as follows:

 

1. Short information contained in the headline

 

2. Focus on events

 

3. Using action verb

 

4. Using material process
